This is the moment a wild cobra was caught after it was stuck in a mouse trap in southern Thailand.

The deadly snake was discovered by staff who heard it hissing behind a coffee shop near a fuel station in Nakhon Si Thammarat province on December 25.

They called a rescue team, who used snake poles to drag the cobra out onto the pavement.

Footage shows how the specialists faced off against the cobra as it slithered across the sidewalk. Despite the reptile's attempts to fend them off, it was caught by its neck and sealed inside a sack to be released into the wild.

Rescuer Surasit Ratcharak said: 'The coffee shop staff heard the snake hissing so they followed the sound and found a cobra stuck in the mouse trap.

'I believe it was trying to catch a mouse but became stuck. Its prey survived and the trap snared the snake instead.'
