Locals covered their cars in recycled plastic bottles and drinks cans for a climate change event in Thailand.

The environmentally-concerned motorists decorated their fuel-consuming vehicles in the pollution in Ratchaburi province on December 26.

Cars and pickup trucks were festooned with rows of empty soda cans and water bottles, while some participants went the extra mile and made plastic bag flowers and towering bottle gazebos.

Also joining the event were several 'runway models' garbed in green fashion, marching through the streets in creative skirts and dresses made out of black rubbish bags, drink cartons, beer cans, and cat food sacks.

Suthipong Putchantra, Pak Tho District Chief, said: 'This event was held to raise awareness for the conservation of the environment. It will be beneficial for all of us to segregate the waste that can be recycled.'

The festive procession - complete with upbeat music and dancing - took the locals in front of the Phra Watcharapong Inthapanyo temple, after which the recycled materials will be sold.

The proceeds of the sales were donated to the Buddhist monks.
