Terrified residents ran to safety when fireworks show towards them on New Year's Eve.

CCTV footage shows neighbours waiting for the beautiful display seconds before the chaotic scenes in Nakhon Pathom province, Thailand on December 31.

The crowd was sent running for their lives as red, green, and orange sparks flew all over the area.

After about 20 seconds, the yard was covered in thick white smoke while some residents were seen stepping out of their homes to check the situation.

Neena Pachirarach said: 'We were shocked when it happened. I remember running into the house to avoid the sparks when the fireworks fell on the ground.'

The resident added no one was hurt or damaged by the incident.

She said: ‘I was all very unexpected. Next year, we need to find a more secure stand for the display, so this doesn't happen again.'
