Exhausted stray dog stuck in middle of lake for TWO WEEKS after flash flood rescued in Thailand
This is the heroic moment an exhausted stray dog stuck in the middle of a lake for two weeks after a flash flood was rescued in Thailand.
The female pooch was swept away by the deluge when the severe weather battered a village in Songkhla province on December 18.
She was starving but the floodwaters were too high and locals were afraid the weary creature would attack them if they came close.
After more than two weeks when the flood receded, rescuers, with the help of fishermen, returned for the trapped dog on January 4.
Heartwarming footage shows how the stray had been seeking refuge on a wooden structure built by locals to catch shrimp.
Disaster response officer Suraphon Sarikkhapan said: ‘I was with one rescue officer and a fisherman from the village who volunteered to help.
‘We boarded a wooden long-tailed boat to reach where the female dog had been staying in the middle of the lake.'
Officer Suraphon added the dog was weak, hungry, exhausted and shivering from the cold when they found her.
He said: ‘I don't know how she survived the ordeal. She's a fighter and deserved better.'
The stray dog seemingly sensed that the officers were trying to help her and was not aggressive when handled.
Another clip showed the pooch appearing scared at first but quickly calmed down and slept beside her rescuer.
The dog was taken back to Sinhanakhon Municipality fire station where the officers are taking care of her.
Rescue boss Suraphon added: ‘It will be her new home until new owners would adopt her. We are also waiting for someone to come and claim her in case she was a lost pet dog, not a stray.'
