A kind nurse cut a hole in her office's wall to save a trapped kitten.

Hannielyn Ambiton searched for the crying feline until she found it stuck inside the hollow space in the corner of a hospital room in Tacurong City, the Philippines, on January 1.

The healthworker then used a screwdriver to chip off parts of the board until the space was big enough to let it out.

Footage shows Hannielyn cutting through the wall using the tool. Moments later, the kitten's head could be seen poking out of the small hole.

Cat lover Hannielyn said: 'A mother cat had given birth on the ceiling. Maybe this little one wandered off and fell off the hole leading to the wall.

‘The kitten was trying to climb up the wall but it was too high. I heard it crying and helped it with my colleagues.'

The worker took the kitten home, which she later named ‘Happy.'

She said: ‘This cat would stay with me and my other rescued felines.

‘I hope others would not hesitate to help and rescue stray animals. I was afraid I would lose my job if my manager discovered what I did to the wall, but the cat's life was more important.'
