This is the dramatic moment a speedboat carrying dozens of tourists sank in rough seas off the coast of Bali.

The vessel carrying 28 holidaymakers was battered by strong waves shortly after 4pm local time on January 3.

Terrified passengers scrambled onto the roof of the boat as others tried to scoop the seawater out with buckets.

Chiara Leto, from Rome, Italy, said her and her husband Kyle were on their honeymoon when the accident happened.

She said: 'We are not getting on a boat any time soon. What a honeymoon to remember for the rest of our lives.'

Another passenger said that the waves quickly overwhelmed the boat causing it to sink.

He added: 'The fast boat could not go against the current, could not withstand very large waves and seawater could enter the ship.'

All of the passengers were rescued safely without any injuries.
