Replay of Seconds from the Eruption of Mount Marapi, West Sumatra, Indonesia
West Sumatra's Marapi volcano erupted Saturday morning. The volcano monitoring agency noted that there had been nine eruptions with the height of the mountain column of ash reaching 300 meters from the top of the mountain.
These are the seconds when Mount Merapi erupted in the Tanah Datar district and Agam district, West Sumatra.
Volcanic ash bursts were clearly visible from the monitoring camera of the volcanology and geological disaster mitigation center or PVMBG Mount Marapi in Bukittinggi City.
The first eruption occurred at 06:11.Wib. Volcanic ash ejected with a pool of ash as high as 300 meters from the top of the crater.
The observed ash is gray with thick intestations leaning to the southeast. This eruption was recorded on a seismogram with a maximum amplitude of 13.4 mm and a duration of around 09:44 WIT. There was another eruption with a duration of 45 seconds with a height of ash 200 meters from the peak of Kawa. The Marapi monitoring post said that since the first eruption, there have been 9 eruptions.
Mount Merapi is one of the active volcanoes in West Sumatra, its position in Tanah Datar and Agam districts. with an altitude of 2,891 above sea level.
Currently, the volcano is on alert level 2 or alert. The public or tourists are prohibited from approaching the mountain range with a radius of 3 kilo meters.
