A hapless pet dog with half its body stuck in the gate was rescued in Thailand.

The black pooch attempted to pass through the gaps in the steel structure when the incident happened in Chonburi province, eastern Thailand on January 2.

But as the creature went through, its stomach was caught as it was too big for the space. A rescue team was called to the scene to help the dog out.

Footage shows the three-year-old male creature being pushed and pulled on the gate as the house owners calmed him down.

Resident and retired Thai Navy officer Somchai Thaworn, 76, said: ''He was stuck in the morning from around 10 am. He sneaked into my home because he wanted to meet our female dog.

'But the dog was surprised when he saw someone inside. He rushed to leave but ended up trapped.'

Rescuers successfully pulled him out unhurt and ran away from the scene.
