A good Samaritan kayaker used his fishing net to rescue a soaked cat from the middle of the ocean.

Randolph Butler was angling near Pensacola Beach, Florida, USA, on November 26 when he and the other men around him spotted a black cat struggling in the water in front of them.

Heart-warming footage shows a nearby kayak fisherman appear from the nearby bridge before lifting the drowning feline from the current using his net.

Once he had rescued it, the fishermen on the riverbank helped lift the poor animal back on to dry land where it accepted kisses and cuddles.

Randolph said: “I was fishing and noticed something hanging on to the nearby pylons. I have absolutely no clue how long it was there.

“When we alerted the kayaker, the cat fell into the water and it floated there for about five minutes before he could get to it.

“It was only a young cat, no older than one. It was very grateful to be saved so I think it must have been tired.

“The cat was taken to a shelter. All I could think was that there are still good people in this world.”
