This is the terrifying moment a dark funnel cloud swirled over buildings in the Philippines.

Footage shows the weather phenomenon extending towards skyscrapers in Davao City, Davao del Sur province from a blanket of gray clouds on January 5.

The funnel eventually dissipated without touching down, a resident said.

Funnel clouds are cone-shaped clouds that form from a cloud base.

They are usually seen before thunderstorms and form when rotating air columns draw in water droplets to reveal regions of intense low pressure.
