A group of Millennial Youth in Indonesia Practicing Lion Dance Ahead of Chinese New Year 2023

Chinese New Year celebrations are synonymous with lion dance performances to enliven events in various regions in Indonesia.

But ahead of the celebration, a number of Barongsai players or athletes have to train hard so that their performance is maximized.

As was done by a number of millennial youths who are members of the Red and White Dragon Lion Dance group in Bogor, West Java Province.

Every afternoon they have to practice in a former building that is no longer in use. Even though they are dominated by young players, their performances are quite impressive.

There are four lion dance players and two lion dances are played. Each lion dance is played by two people. They wear Barongsai costumes during practice.

In the game, the head and body act in an agile way to move, jump here and there.

In addition to lion dance practice, this youth group also practiced dragon attractions.

In the dragon attraction there are nine players. They practice so seriously that there are no wrong movements.

While practicing, lion dancers and dragon performers are accompanied by traditional Chinese music. Which was played by a number of other youths.
The musical instruments played are drums, cymbals and gongs.

Drums are played by one person, while cymbals are played by two people. While the gong is played by one person.

In lion dance performances, the drum is the tempo command because it is the basic beat in lion dance music.
