This is the spectacular moment a phenomenal landspout tornado towered over dusty hills in Saudi Arabia.

The twister began as a thin funnel but rapidly grew into an hourglass-shaped tornado as it gained strength near a construction site in Duba city on January 10.

Footage shows the landspout sucking up dust towards the sky as a light drizzle fell in the area.

Worker Angelito Luna said: 'It's the first time I've seen a tornado this large in Saudi. It was rotating so rapidly.'

The rare weather phenomenon eventually dissipated into a cloud of dust within a few minutes.

Landspouts are a type of tornado that are weaker than supercell tornadoes, which are known for causing severe damage. Landspouts also finish much more quicker.

They form at the start of thunderstorms when clouds are still in the growth stage and an updraft stretches vertically and tightens into a strong vortex. They are also known as a non-supercell tornado.
