The eruption activity of Mount Marapi on Sumatra Island was filmed in timelapse
Mount Merapi activity in Indonesia has shown an increase since Saturday, January 7 last week.
Footage filmed in Bukittinggi, West Sumatra Province, on Thursday (January 12) shows a series of eruptions of Merapi in the morning and evening.
The crater which is located to the right of the mountain peak several times spewed volcanic ash as high as 200 meters to 500 meters into the sky.
The Marapi Volcano Observation Post, Center for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation (PVMBG) recorded 24 eruptions that day.
Since it erupted on January 7 until today (Friday, January 13), Mount Marapi has erupted 173 times with columns of eruption ash as high as 150 metres to 1000 metres.
There was thin ash rain in the Northeast and Southeast, but no reports of residents being displaced due to this natural phenomenon.
