A leopard that was hiding in the grass of a maize field attacked a farmer in the village of Kakanwani, Banswara district, India's Rajasthan on January 11.

The footage shows villagers looking for the animal. Someone throws a stone at a spot where the leopard is supposed to be hiding. The big cat immediately jumps out of the grass and attacks a man.

The villager was taken to the hospital and given first aid. He was released and is in good health condition.

A leopard which was hiding within the long grass of a maize field, attacked a farmer after he came out with a group searching for it, in northern India's Rajasthan.

The incident reportedly happened in Kakanwani village in Banswara district on January 11.

Visuals showed the group of villagers pursuing the wild animal, which was hidden within the long grass of the field. One of them hurled a stone at a spot where they suspected the animal to be hiding and out came the big cat, which leapt and chased, before pinning down one of the members of the group while the others ran away.

According to a report, the victim of the leopard's attack was taken to the hospital but later, was released after being given first aid. The forest department, upon being given a tipoff, sent a team to capture the animal but the crowd was getting difficult to control. Later, more officials arrived and they were scattered in groups, in pursuit of the big cat.

In the evening, it was learnt that the leopard came out of the field and ran towards the Ramgarh forest area. It is believed that the field, where this incident happened is around 400m from the forest block. Regional forest officer Labana says that the forest area is spread over 6,000 hectares at the end of which there is a drain, where jackals and foxes often come in search of prey.

The leopard too might have come in search of prey but could not return in the morning. It then hid in the field where it was noticed by the villagers.
