A fisherman was killed after his legs were chewed off by a 10-ft crocodile in a river in Indonesia.

Saidar, 40, was attacked by the beast while fishing with friends at the Celau River in Central Bangka Regency on January 10 evening.

The hungry predator pounced and dragged him by the feet into the water after he had cast his line, with his friends scrambling to pull him back ashore in a deadly tug-of-war.

They managed to break Saidar free from the vicious croc's jaws, but his legs had been savagely ripped apart by its sharp fangs.

Graphic photos show the extent of Saidar's injuries after being mauled by the reptile. Huge chunks of flesh had been scraped off by the croc's sharp fangs, leaving his bones twisted and exposed and his feet missing.

Saidar was rushed to the Sungaiselan Community Health Center, but he bled to death as his wounds were too severe.

Inspector Hafiz Febrandani, head of the Sungaiselan Police, said: 'The victim was attacked in the legs and dragged towards the river before being saved by three of his colleagues.

'He was declared dead while undergoing medical treatment.'

Following Saidar's death, a hunt was launched for the crocodile, which was found alive two days later some 500 metres from where it had attacked the fisherman.

Authorities have captured the large predator and will turn it over to the local conservation agency.
