An injured python with deep wounds was rescued from a resident's home in Thailand.

The serpent was bleeding when it was spotted by construction worker Pornpun Pon-art, 54, who was renovating the property in Chonburi province on January 11.

When rescuers arrived at the house, the frightened snake tried to escape from the volunteers.

Footage shows the creature hiding under the net before a rescuer used a long pole to secure its neck.

Pornpun said: ‘I was checking the equipment when I saw something move. I thought it was a rat but it turned out to be a snake.

‘It was hurt. I believe it went here to ask for help. Its wounds looked very painful.'

It was unknown how the snake sustained its injuries.

The 13ft-long snake had at least ten deep gashes around its body and was taken back to a vet to be treated before its release back into the wild.
