Indonesian Lion Dance Orders Increase Ahead of Chinese New Year 2023

Bogor Regency in West Java Province has a variety of creative economic potential. One of them is in the field of lion and dragon dance making.

Lili Hambali, a lion and dragon craftsman, said that he started making lion dance since 2000.

Lili Hambali utilizes her yard in Gang Angbun Number 2, Jalan Roda, Bogor City, as a lion and dragon production site.

Every day, Lili Hambali is assisted by five employees to produce the lion and dragon.

In the process, it takes a week to work on one lion and dragon unit.

A set of lion dance is sold for Rp6 million, while the price for a set of dragons is Rp8 million.

Lili Hambali explained that 70 percent of the raw materials are still imported from China.

"As much as 70 percent of the raw materials in the form of sheep and rabbit fur are still imported from China, including for the eyes, while the skeleton uses Indonesian materials, namely rattan from Kalimantan," he said.

Lili Hambali's Barongsai and dragon products have been sold throughout Indonesia. They have even been sold to Australia.

Question: Are there many orders this year?

Answer: Yes. Increased compared to before during the Covid-19 pandemic.

Q: Orders in which areas?

Answer: It depends on the order. Many are from outside the region. Two months ago, the order went overseas, to Australia.

Question: How much does each item sell for?

Answer: For lion dance, it's six million rupiah. If the dragon costs eight million five hundred rupiah.
