Teresa Vaughan (78 years old) and her husband Richard (98 years old) have been the home owners of this property for 43 years: they purchased it in 1980.Their yellow house suffered some of the worst damage on the outside from mud and flooding, from the creek behind their house. The city widened the creek after floods in prior decades, but did not build a sufficient retaining wall between the creek and her yard, much to Teresa’s anger and dismay. Even though she is 78 years old and has prior injuries, she was trying her best to clear a path through the mud from the street to her door. She is worried the creek will flood even more again this weekend when it rains. Her 98 year old husband wanted to help clean up but he is nearly blind and she would’t let him. They haven’t purchased home owners insurance since they paid off the mortgage. She has lots of friends concerned about her but they live far away and there is no one to help her. When she reached out to the city of SB for help, the woman she spoke to was nice but so far nobody is doing anything to assist. Teresa was born in Portugal but has lived in the USA most of her life. Teresa expressed exhaustion and worry and is in need of assistance. Video Credit © Amy Katz/ZUMA Press
