This is the heartwarming moment a stray cat pierced by rusty barbed wires was rescued in Thailand.

The feline attempted to jump over the fence from the roof but fell on the structure's sharp edges in Rayong province on January 10.

It was found by the house resident who called the animal rescue team to the property to free the injured creature.

Footage shows the terrified moggy crying as a volunteer removed the wire that skewered through its back muscles.

One of the rescuers Pornchai Chaingam said: ‘The resident did not know how to save the cat. He was scared that he could hurt it even more.'

The team took the cat to the veterinarians where its wounds were treated.

After a health check-up, the cat was taken to the animal shelter to be looked after.
