Residents made rice cakes to welcome the incoming Chinese New Year in southwest China.

The video was filmed in Qiandongnan Miao and Dong Autonomous Prefecture in Guizhou Province on January 15.

According to reports, it is a traditional custom of making rice cakes which are called Xiang Nuo since ancient times.

Xiang Nuo is an excellent variety cultivated by local rice growers after years of practice. It is popular among the public because of its fragrant texture.

Making glutinous rice cakes, printing glutinous rice cakes, and eating glutinous rice cakes are the traditional customs of Spring Festival in the local area.

Glutinous rice cakes have also become common gifts for people visiting relatives and friends, symbolising unity and happiness.
