Taxis raise fares amid surging fuel costs in Thailand
Taxis have raised their fares amid the surging fuel costs in Thailand.
The increase in prices was announced this week in registered cabs in the capital Bangkok.
Footage shows a passenger hailing a taxi but after a few exchanges, the commuter decided to walk away.
The Thai Ministry of Transport raised the starting base fare from 35 baht to 40 baht for the first time in three decades to help drivers keep up with soaring fuel costs.
However, the metre adjustments of more than 80,000 taxi drivers are still ongoing until February 28 so passengers may not notice the difference straight away.
