A Chinese tour guide was found dead after plunging from the rooftop of a hotel in Thailand on Monday.

Chen Pu Lin, 33, was discovered lying in a pool of his blood and wearing only underwear after falling from the roof of the Mantra Pura Hotel in Pattaya on January 16.

Security footage captured the man walking in a dazed state through the hotel's halls, apparently sporting a wound on his head.

Police said his room on the third-storey showed signs of a break-in, but there was no indication it had been ransacked. Blood was also found on the rooftop, and a flight of stairs leading to it.

Chen had arrived in Thailand on January 13 with three other people from a Chinese tour agency to scout tourist spots.

On the night of his death, he declined to go out with his companions as he complained of feeling ill.

Chen's colleague said he was not involved in any disputes with anyone.

Police Lieutenant Colonel Apichet Methithammaporn, Pattaya police investigator, said: 'According to surveillance footage, Chen was walking in the hotel with a cut wound on his head, but the video did not show any other person.'

Officers are continuing to gather evidence while awaiting the results of Chen's post mortem examiation They have informed the Chinese Embassy who have told his relatives in China.
