Hand Pumped Fire Engine Competition

Buy video

A firemen's muster in Salem, Massachusetts with a hand pumped fire engine built in 1828 that still works. It's a competition to see which crew can play the longest stream of water. The sport is governed by the New England States Veteran Firemen's League and was first organized in 1849 in Bath, Maine on the Fourth of July. It is a very cool old tradition that is being carried into the 21st century by a lot of dedicated people in their 20s.
