Cars battled through heavy flood after torrential rains hit northwest Colombia on Tuesday, January 17.

Footage shows the deluge slowing down traffic in Itagui city in Antioquia following nine hours of continuous rain.

The water had also surged into shops and homes in the region.

Local media reported at least 42 homes were affected, with 12 being seriously damaged and four more collapsing during the flood.

Lucas Espinosa Toro, undersecretary of Risk Management of Itagui, said: "We have carried out emergency measures with the communities in the affected sectors. Today, we are already doing cleaning and removal of debris."
