Residents of West Sumatra Province, Indonesia, found a giant rare flower on the hills of Bukik Apik Kamang.

The footage shows the corpse flower, also known as amorphophallus titanum, in full bloom. Native to Indonesian rainforests, it is very difficult to find: each bloom only lasts 24 to 36 hours.

Win Choto, 58, a local resident, said: "You can actually see two types of rare and protected flowers, Rafflesia Arnoldii and Amorphophallus Titanum blooming together".

Local residents in Indonesia found a rare and world's largest flower in full bloom in the fields in the forest hills.

Footage from January 18 shows the journey to the hills of Bukik Apik Kamang, in Agam district, West Sumatra Province.

After 15 minutes of travelling by offroad car, they arrived at the Rafflesia Arnoldii flower habitat.

Flowers with a diameter of approx 1 metre that grow on slope are red-black, which means it will wither after full bloom the day before.

In the area near also found flower heads which are expected to be in full bloom in the next two weeks.

Win Choto, 58, a local resident, said that apart from Rafflesia, a titan arum corpse flower, known as the world’s smelliest flower was also found here.

"So, one day when you come here you can see 2 types of rare and protected flowers, Rafflesia Arnoldii and Amorphophallus Titanum that bloom together," Choto added.

According to Choto, local residents have committed to protecting and preserving the habitat of this rare flower.

Residents hope that this location can be used as a tourist attraction.
