Thousands joined the "Toma de Lima", or "takeover of Lima", protests on Thursday, January 19.
Protesters are demanding the resignation of President Dina Boluarte and the closure of Congress. Violent clashes between protesters and police have erupted in central Lima, specifically in and around Plaza San Martin, where most of the protesters marched and held demonstrations.
