Locals retrieved a stray dog that was stranded in a swamp while looking for food.

A rescue team found the brown-and-white female pooch unable to leave the water-filled area in Ang Thong province, Thailand on January 18.

Footage shows the officers wading through the one-metre-deep water to reach the frightened animal stuck near vine-covered thickets.

They scooped up the mutt and placed it in a basin used as a makeshift boat.

Villager Pook, 46, had spotted it wandering into the swamp in the morning and grew worried for its safety.

She said: 'I think it was finding something to eat, but it became trapped. I was afraid it might be exhausted and drown since it's been in the swamp for several hours, so I called the rescue team.'

The stray dog was dried with a towel and fed before being released.
