A huge python regurgitated a family's pet cat when it was caught hiding in their backyard.

The serpent with a bulging stomach was found lurking by the drain behind a home in Bangkok, Thailand, on January 1.

Frantic residents called the animal rescuers for help but while the volunteers secured it, the greedy creature vomited the owner's dead cat.

Footage shows the 8ft-long snake letting out the slimy lifeless feline from its stretched-out mouth.

One of the rescuers said: ‘This snake might have hunted the cat and waited for an opportunity. We felt sorry for the family for losing their pet.'

The team took the python inside a sack and released it later back into the wild.
