Two Cambodian nationals were arrested for allegedly stealing a bag from a Japanese tourist at a Bangkok airport.

Kroch Sophoeun and Pren Sokleng, both 38, were detained at the Suvarnabhumi Airport after CCTV footage revealed they had taken the victim's black backpack from the plane after landing on January 18.

They had been waiting for a flight to Ubon Ratchathani province in northern Thailand when cops nabbed them and took them under custody. Officers also seized the Japanese man's bag from them.

Inside was a black wallet, two wireless headphones, an iPad, Thai banknotes worth 11,240 THB (342 USD), and Japanese money worth 186,000 JPY (1,445 USD).

The suspects reportedly admitted to the theft, saying they had flown in from Phnom Penh and were headed to Ubon Ratchathani for a doctor's appointment.

They were sitting on the same row as the victim and had intentionally grabbed his bag, they said.

The Cambodians were taken to the Suvarnabhumi Airport police station and were charged with theft.

Meanwhile, the Japanese tourist thanked the police and airport staff for their quick response in retrieving all of his items.
