A snack billed as "dragon's breath" is made from liquid nitrogen, and it is a popular go-to fix for people in Indonesia.

Besides its cheap price, it's attractive because of its uniqueness -- the mouth and nose of whoever consumes it can emit smoke when eating it.

Recently, it was reported a number of children were poisoned after consuming dragon's breath, so the Indonesian Ministry of Health urged parents, teachers, and local health authorities to be vigilant.

Footage filmed on Saturday, January 21 in Bukittinggi, West Sumatra Province shows dragon's breath vendors serving both children and adults.

Thick white smoke or steam can be seen coming out of a large stainless steel tube which is poured into the snacks.

Vendor Berman Sikumbang at the Makan Place Plaza Bukittinggi said he sells the snacks for 25,000 rupiah ($1,66).

According to Sikumbang, sales turnover of dragon's breath snacks has dropped dramatically since concerns were raised last week.

“Sales of dragon snacks have fallen by 80 percent. A few days ago an officer came to urge me to stop selling, but they did not give an appeal letter. So, we are still selling it as we have to pay rent for the space,” Sikumbang said.

Shinta Wati, a parent of a boy who bought dragon's breath for her child, admitted that she didn't know about the health risks of consuming it.

"My son used to eat this and had no complaints," Wati said.

Meanwhile, consumer Sari Linda said she was curious about the taste.

“I want to try it because I'm excited. Hopefully, there will be no complaints and health risks for me," said Linda.

Since there were reports that a number of children were poisoned after consuming dragon's breath, many dragon's breath traders, or also called Smoky Ciki, have closed and changed their wares.
