Footage shows a fire ripping through the apartment block in Turkey where a grandson allegedly started the blaze which killed his grandmother and aunt.

Okan Altay, 28, allegedly arrived with a five liter can of petrol at the seventh floor property in the Muratpasa district of coastal city Antalya on Friday evening at around 6pm local time.

The young man allegedly started arguing over money with his relative Hulya Cetinkaya, 63, before her daughter Filiz Kaplan, 46, who lived upstairs heard the noise and joined them.

Flames reportedly engulfed the home shortly after. Local media reported that the fire brigade extinguised the inferno in one hour. The bodies of two women were found during the examination and Okan was also taken to the hospital suffering with smoke inhalation.

Police said that Okan had been detained in custody while the bodies of the two dead women were sent to hospital for post mortem examinations.
