A manhole cover flew up and struck a boy after his friend threw a lit firecracker into the sewer in China.

CCTV footage filmed in the city of Hohhot in Inner Mongolia on January 18 shows a boy throwing a lit firecracker in into a sewer through a manhole.

The cover then flew up several metres high and landed onto another boy.

According to a resident, police and emergency departments arrived on site to deal with the case and the boy was sent to hospital for treatment.

The boy was reportedly not in life-threatening condition.
