A baby boy was rescued in Thailand after being abandoned and dumped in a rubbish bin.

The two-month-old infant was found wrapped in a towel when a resident heard him crying in Krabi province on the evening of January 19.

He was wearing only a nappy when the shocked villager who was reportedly heading to a convenience store picked him up and called the rescuers.

Footage shows a rescue worker holding the baby inside an ambulance as they took him to the Ao Luek hospital.

A rescue volunteer said: "The 40-year-old woman was going to a store when she heard the baby and found him in the bin. She took the baby back and informed the local officials to call the rescue team".

Medics checked the baby at the hospital. He weighed 4kg and was estimated to be at least two months old.

Police are now searching for the parents. They said that the area where the baby was found had issues with illegal drugs.

Officers said the Provincial Social Development And Human Security Office will take care of the baby.
