This is the shocking moment a train smashed into a pickup truck killing one passenger on a level crossing in Thailand.

CCTV footage shows the express train emerging and dragging a silver Toyota along the tracks in Songkhla province on January 22.

As the train could not stop immediately, the truck was dragged until it plunged into a grassy ditch where it was found severely deformed by rescuers.

One of the passengers Nazmi Manna, 33, who was sitting behind the driver, suffered head injuries after being thrown off the vehicle during the incident. She was taken to Chana Hospital but later died.

The driver Yaya Manna, 35, and another passenger Patumma Sa, 33, survived with severe injuries. Both are still recovering in the hospital.

Local police station Lieutenant Furakorn Salaemae said: ‘We reviewed the CCTV. The road did not have barriers, only warning signs and flashing lights.'

Lieutenant Furakorn added the driver was from another province so he might not know the area well.

He said: ‘He was an outsider and have not mastered that route yet. He was hit by a full load, unaware of the train.'

‘During holidays and weekends, the area did not have someone to watch it. We would look into this so it does not happen again.'
