Around 6,000 taxi drivers blocked a street in Madrid in response to new regulations planned by the government.

The new regulations intend that taxi drivers can operate 24 hours a day. They also want a single passenger to reserve a single seat in vehicles.

La avenida de la castellana ha quedado bloqueada este martes 24 de enero contra las políticas de la presidenta de la comunida de Madrid, Isabel Díaz Ayuso. La federación profesional de taxi de Madrid, (FPTM) ha convocado una manifestación en defensa de los intereses del sector debido al agravio causado por el nuevo reglamento del partido popular para desregularizar al sector del taxi en la comunidad de Madrid.

La regulación que quiere poner en marcha el gobierno regional aspira a eliminar los días de descanso (permitiendo que los taxistas puedan circular 24 horas todos los días) que las licencias puedan tener hasta 50 propietarios, o que los usuarios puedan reservar plaza única en un coche compartido.

La respuesta del sector del taxi ha sido tajante, en un referendum hecho en la FPTM, La respuesta del 96% de los participantes era un claro no al nuevo régimen. Las principales quejas del sector están orientadas a que la nueva regulación fomenta la reducción de los derechos de los trabajadores. Desde la federación de taxistas se considera que la comunidad de Madrid trabaja por verla los intereses de las plataformas de VTC tales como uber, bolt, cabify etc
