A hero tourist helped a stranded stray dog that was seen trying to cross a river in Thailand.

Worranan was grilling a barbecue at a campsite when the pooch - seemingly attracted by the smell - approached on the other side of the fast-flowing mountain stream in Nan province on December 30.

However, Worranan and his friends were shocked when the excited dog ran into the gushing water and came towards them only to get stuck in the middle.

Footage shows the kind camper reaching for the dog and guiding him across the strong currents.

He said: ‘The dog smelled our roasted meat. He swam across maybe to ask for pork, but the water so strong.'

The dog was almost swept away so the tourist went to help it out of the water.

Worranan added: ‘We then gave the dog a few bites of our food. It felt nice to be able to help the pooch. It became the highlight of our trip.'
