A clever pet cat asked his owner to rescue a frog that was being eaten by a wild monitor lizard.

The three-year-old feline named Piti was poking his head from the kitchen door after seeing a reptile pounce on a toad in Nakhon Si Thammarat province, Thailand on January 11.

Piti ran up to his owner Kob Srisang and called her attention before the resident decided to check what was happening.

Kob was shocked upon seeing the lizard dragging its prey back to the woods before she decided to help it.

The pet owner said: ‘I knew Piti was asking me to save the frog. He was a smart pet.'

She took a pink pole and scared the lizard away. The animal, in turn, let go of the frog and hopped away from the house.

She added: ‘There were a lot of plants and a pond nearby, so wildlife is passing by our house. The frog was safe now. I hope it eats many mosquitos.'
