A restaurant chef fought to put out a kitchen fire that erupted from a leaky gas cylinder.

The cook was preparing fried fish when flames suddenly exploded from the stove at the casual eatery in Chonburi province, Thailand on January 25.

Frantically, he ran back and forth with a bucket to douse the blaze with water to no avail until he took a hose with flowing water to pour it on the gas cylinder.

Footage shows the chef spraying water on the burning object while closing its hot knob with bare hands. Several waiters came to help him contain the kicthen fire.

Customer Patnaree Thananattapong said: ‘Everything happened so fast. We were sitting at our table and started eating when the people shouted.

‘Suddenly, there was a big fire in the kitchen and only the man ran up to put it out. The cooks were all shocked.'

The worker suffered minor burns on his arms after he held the burning gas cylinder without protection.

But due to his quick action, the fire did not spread throughout the place. The gas cylinder was later taken out of the shop while they repaired the damaged area in the kitchen.

Patnaree added: ‘Accidents are everywhere so we need always to be alert.'
