Australia's national day, January 26th, was marked with a mixture of celebrations, protests, and rallies in support of indigenous people. Timelapse footage posted to Twitter by Cllr Pauline Lockie shows thousands of people marching through central Sydney, waving banners and flags with the message "Invasion Day march down Broadway, Sydney. Always was, always will be."

This march, known as the "Invasion Day" march, brings attention to the ongoing issues faced by Indigenous Australians, specifically the injustices and atrocities committed against them since the arrival of Europeans on the continent. The term "Invasion Day" is used by many Indigenous Australians and their allies to describe the day as it marks the arrival of the First Fleet of British ships in 1788, which began the colonization and displacement of Indigenous peoples.

Prime Minister Anthony Albanese marked the day by tweeting, "Let us all recognize the unique privilege that we have to share this continent with the world’s oldest continuous culture that should be a source of pride for all."

The ongoing debate surrounding the celebration of January 26th as Australia Day highlights the need for further recognition and understanding of the historical and ongoing injustices faced by Indigenous Australians. It is important for all Australians to acknowledge and learn from the past in order to create a more inclusive and equitable society for all.
