A Thai zoo asked their visitors to help them choose names for an adorable pair of baby lions.

Head zookeeper Narongwit Chodchoy said one of their mother lions Kanya gave birth to a male and female cub at the facility in Khon Kaen province on December 23.

Kanya mated with partner Singha after they were relocated from Ubon Ratchathani Zoo.

Officials have now asked animal lovers for ideas in naming the newest addition to their family.

Director Narongwit said: ‘It was the first time in Khon Kaen Zoo that lion cubs were born. It was a delightful event and a gift for the upcoming Valentine's Day.

‘It also reflected the zoo's success in taking care of baby animals, breeding wild animals, and designing the ecosystem in the lion exhibition to be similar to their natural habitat.'

After giving birth, vets and staff checked Kanya and the cubs' health and behaviour to prevent stress and keep their bodies healthy.

Both cubs are available for visitors to watch through surveillance cameras in front of the lion exhibition.

Meanwhile, the naming contest will open from January 30 to February 10, with the chosen names to be announced on February 14.
