Panicked staff fought to put out a fire when dried pampas grass suddenly burst into flames inside a bridal boutique in Vietnam.

One of the employees was organising the displays in front of the couture when the decor ignited in Hai Duong city on January 26.

Frantically, he pulled the pot that held the 9ft-tall dried grass and toppled it over to extinguish the flames.

But instead of dying down, the blaze only grew even bigger as the plant arrangement was shaken and a second pot of pampas immediately caught fire.

CCTV footage shows the worker shouting for help as he desperately attempted to douse the fire. A second worker showed up from the back of the store and helped him toss the burning pampas out into the parking lot containing the fire.

The wedding gown shop owner Truong Dinh Tuyen said: ‘Oh, we didn't know these could almost burn our business down. Everyone, please be careful with these pampas.'

Shop owner Truong added they were still unsure how the pampas grass could have ignited because their shop was ventilated.

Truong said: ‘They looked beautiful and could add a certain appeal to your interiors but they're simply not safe. We would never use them again.'

Although no one was hurt, the flames damaged the walls, which had to be repainted.

Pampas grass contains oils in all parts of the plant which could make them a possible fire risk.
