Footage shows Tyre Nichols being interviewed in July 2018 outside of a Sacramento, California DMV office where he had been waiting in line for hours.

This was at a time when a Real ID deadline was approaching and outdated technology was prompting major delays over the summer.

Nichols sat outside the office in 98-degree heat and spoke with journalist Bryan Anderson for a few minutes on camera. He expressed his frustration with the delays and people with appointments going in front of him. While he was upset with the situation, he was fairly upbeat and smiling through the delay.

On January 10, 2023, Nichols died after being beaten by five Memphis Police Department officers.
