A talented ice cream man attracts customers with awesome tricks - hurling his desserts 20ft in the air and catching them in cones.

Som Jijeankham, 77, who has been selling sweets on his cart for at least five decades, said the competition was stiff among ice cream vendors in Bangkok, Thailand in the 1960s.

So to be unique, he learned the sweet swills to outsell his street food rivals.

It has now become the old man's trademark with tourists searching for his spot near the city's train station so he can perform it for them.

Footage shows ice cream man Lung-Som scooping a ball of lemon ice cream, tossing it high in the air, and catching it in a sugar cone. He does it for every customer who buys ice cream from him.

Som said: ‘I first learned this in 1966. There were ice cream sellers on every street corner so I had to be different to attract customers.'

Lung-Som added he usually parked his ice-cream motorcycle near Bang Wa train station but would occasionally switch to other spots when he was feeling bored.

He said: ‘Everywhere I went, there would be customers lining up to watch my performance on the streets and recording videos to show to their families.'

Inside his ice cream container are vanilla, chocolate, strawberry, coffee, and lemon ice creams for his customers, with prices starting from 15 to 40 THB (0.37 GBP to 0.98 GBP).

Customers can also ask for add-ons to their ice creams, such as chocolate and strawberry sauce, peanuts, sweet potatoes, and coconut jelly.

Som said: ‘I sold ice cream like everybody else so I had to do something different to make more sales. My customers are happy to see me perform and they visit again.

‘I make friends with my customers and I am nice to them. Sometimes even when they were full, they'd still come to me and buy ice cream.

‘But I'm not so popular because I keep changing my selling location. My wife and children live comfortably and happily because of my ice cream.'

Lung-Som has been selling ice cream for 56 years and said he would never change careers.

He said: ‘I would not exchange my career for anything else. This profession gave me everything. Because of my ice cream sales, I can have a house and raise my three children until they graduate from university.

‘I don't know what other people say about me. All I know is that ice cream selling is my life. This job is my life.'
