A curious local explored an abandoned Soviet military plane in Libya.

Footage shows the Ahmed Hadya entering the Ilyushin Il-76 aircraft through a ramp on its tail at a field in Tripoli International Airport on January 1.

The plane's interior had been left bare without equipment, with a visible build-up of dust on the floor, indicating it had been deserted for a while.

Explorer Ahmed further toured along the 40ft-long aisle with plastic, wires, and assorted trash scattered everywhere.

At the end of the aisle were old cabinets and empty compartments before reaching the narrow cockpit with pipes and tubes sticking out from ceilings and walls.

Ahmed said: ‘The old plane was so cool. Whenever I find a new place to explore, I feel like I am going back in time. I imagine the things that happened here and it's a good enough reward.'

The Ilyushin Il-76 is a four-engine turbonfan produced by Communist Russia in the 1960s as a freighter to replace the Antonov An-12 and carry heavy equipment.

However, military adaptations of the Ilyushin Il-76 have been used across north Africa, Europe and Asia.
