Thousands of teachers march in London for fair pay during first national strike since 2016
Thousands of teachers march through central London on February 1 to demand fair pay and better working conditions. This is their
first national strike since 2016.
According to the National Education Union (NEU), more than 100,000 workers are expected to walk out.
Despite Education Secretary Gillian Keegan claiming that the majority of schools will be open, the union underlined that 85% will be partially or fully closed.
The teachers' industrial action takes place on the same day as other strikes. February 1 will see half-a-million people striking, marking it as the biggest day of industrial action in more than a decade. Among the protesters are train drivers, civil servants, bus drivers, security guards, university lecturers, and Border Force staff.
