A stunning close-up of the rare 'green comet' officially named C/2022 E3 ZTF was captured from Kent, UK in the early hours of this morning (February 1).

Spectacular timelapse footage created by cropping and processing photographs taken using a super telephoto lens at 6 second intervals, shows the vibrant green gases coming from the cosmic rock as it hurtles through space.

The images were captured from the coastal town of Sheerness, as the comet made its closest approach to Earth at around 1am in the morning local time.

The comet was last seen 50,000 years ago.
