An Australian pensioner was brutally beaten in an alleged road rage brawl weeks after a British national was killed in a similar attack in Thailand.

Helmut Glaenzer, 81, was left battered and bruised after a group of men reportedly ganged up on him in Chonburi province on January 28.

The attack is believed to have stemmed over the men parking their van in front of the octogenarian's home. Tempers flared when both parties began arguing before the group surrounded him.

A neighbour named Hor tried to stop the attack, but failing that, filmed it on her phone as evidence instead. She claimed that one of the attackers had presented himself as a police officer and tried to seize her phone before fleeing in the van.

Helmut and his wife Udomporn Narnsin, 60, have reported the assault to the Samed Police Station.

Udomporn said: 'I want to know why they ganged up on my elderly husband like that. I hope the case will be resolved quickly, and that the attackers will be held accountable for their actions.'

The assault comes weeks after a British pensioner was shot dead over a similar road rage row early January.

Neil Roger, 71, from Doncaster, South Yorkshire, was blasted in the back four times in Pattaya City while riding home on his moped after a night out with friends. The shooter, Apicha Boonsawat, 32, claimed Neil had provoked him by 'banging on his car' which sparked a road rage chase.

Apicha later turned himself into the police and was arrested on suspicion of murder.
