This is the incredible moment a once-in-a-lifetime comet streaked across the sky over the Philippines.

The C/2022 E3 comet, also called the 'Green Comet' for its bright green nucleus, was captured hurtling in the heavens over the Philippines' PAGASA Astronomical Observatory in Quezon City on February 2 local time.

Relatively little is known about the celestial body, which was discovered just March last year.

Because of its long orbit, the sighting is believed to be the first in 10,000 years that the comet has crossed paths with Earth.

It was seen most clearly in the northern hemisphere, at a distance of 26.4 million miles away from the planet.
