Amsterdam reconfirms itself as paradise for bike lovers with opening of underwater bicycle garage

In January 2023 Amsterdam opened it's underwater bike park. At a cost of 60 million Euros it can hold 7,000 bicycles. The project is part of a massive revamping of the area around Centraal Station and includes a new Metro station. With an estimated 880,000 bikes and a move away from car use Amsterdam is simply running out of places to park them. A multi level bike park already exists nearby but it was frequently full to capacity. The new park is free for the first 24 hours but then it costs 1.35 Euros per day. With it's long escalators, one way system and electronic barriers it looks more like a state of art airport terminal than somewhere to leave your bike.
