A 7.8-magnitude earthquake struck and caused buildings to collapse in southern Turkey in the early hours of February 6.

Footage shows a chandelier swinging from the ceiling as the tremors were felt in Antalya city.

The quake was recorded at a depth of 24.1 kilometres, some 23 kilometres east of Nurdagi in the Gaziantep province at 1.17 UTC, the United States Geological Survey said.

Aftershocks have also been reported in central Turkey a few minutes after, the agency added.
